Shravanabelagola, January 9, 2006: Continuing the more than 100 year old tradition of offering coconuts toward the Mahamasthakabhisheka Celebrations to the Digambar Jain mutt, the local community of this pilgrim town, inclusive of all segments, today offered 2400 coconut (Shrifal) to the Mutt in the presence of HH Swasthishri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji.
Though this tradition is a continuation of the past, the number of coconuts offered this year is expected to increase by more than five times compared to the celebration witnessed hitherto because the current celebrations last nearly a month.
‘Shrifal Samarpan’ is a tradition of offering coconut to the Mutt during the Mahamasthakabhisheka celebration that has been followed from the past. It is believed that offering of ‘Shrifal’ for the Bahubali Swami’s Masthakabhisheka would bring prosperity and good fortune to the local community. This is the first major consignment of coconuts to reach the Mutt in connection with the current celebrations. – Jain Heritage Centres News Service (JHCNS)
