Hassan, March 10, 2017: Congress leader C.S. Putte Gowda has appealed to the Ministry of Railways to name the recently sanctioned train connecting Hassan-Bengaluru via Shravanabelagola after Gomateshwara, whose statue at Shravanabelagola attracts thousands of tourists each year.
Addressing presspersons here on recently, Mr. Gowda said the railway line connecting Bengaluru and Hassan via Shravanabelagola had a long history. The work began when H.D. Deve Gowda was the Prime Minister. “Gomateshwara stands for sacrifice and peace. Naming a train after him would be the right move,” he said. Further, Mr. Gowda said he will take out a bike rally on March 20 to spread awareness among the public on conserving groundwater. The rally will commence at Channarayapatna and conclude in Hassan. Folklore expert H.S. Ramachandre Gowda, progressive farmer Narayana Reddy, writer Nallur Prasad, retired police officer K.
