Has set aside Rs12 crore towards a project for mega event at Shravanabelagola in Feb 2008

Shravanabelagola (Hassan District, Karnataka), July 24, 2017: The mahamastakabhishekha ceremony of the monolithic statue of Bahubali in Shravanabelagola to be held in the first week of February 2018 will be special this time around.

As authorities are planning to build a stand that reaches halfway up to the statue and a gallery using the German ring lock system to allow about 6,000 devotees to watch the mega event. Three lifts will also be built from the feet of the 57-foot statue to its head for the abhishekha (consecration).

A project report has been prepared that to the tune of `12 crore for the event. The ring lock system is supposed to be safe for use.

Deputy commissioner Rohini Sindhuri Friday obtained detailed information and looked at the blueprint of the technology on Friday. The ring lock system uses nuts and bolts and the stand will also be built with iron in sync with the weight it may have to carry. Once the system is fixed, a security check will be conducted, technical experts said.

It was decided at the meeting to begin work in 10-15 days.

The government had decided to allow the public works department to begin the work and experts prepared the project report after several rounds of discussions.
The government had also entrusted the task to the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. A team of experts led by its manager Krishnareddy is camping in the district and has taken stock of the preparations after visiting Shravanabelagola along with the deputy commissioner.

Tender for township
Senior officers said that a tender for the construction of 12 temporary townships at a cost of Rs 75 crore will be called for soon as devotees and tourists assemble in large numbers for the event.

A discussion is going on how to boost tourism and provide the rural youth with employment. Mahamastakabhisheka’s special officer BN Varaprasada Reddy expressed confidence that the preparations for the mega event will be completed by the end of December. – News Courtesy: Bangalore Mirror
